We are preservation breeders of the German Shorthaired Pointer ~ Hunterspride is a home-based breeding program located in Errington, on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
✨PHILOSOPHY
We breed purposefully, with health, temperament, trainability, and conformation being our main priorities. We focus on maintaining all the traditional abilities and hallmarks of the German Shorthaired Pointer in our breeding program and strive to produce well-rounded, versatile dogs. Occasionally, we have quality puppies available to the right homes.
Our Shorthairs compete in Conformation, Field and Water Tests, Field Trials, Tracking, as well as Obedience, Rally, and Agility. We breed very selectively and are proud to have produced: Best In Show, Reserve Best In Show, Multiple Best in Specialty Show, Champion, Grand Champion, Grand Champion Excellent, Field Dog Excellent, Master Hunter, Field Trial winning, and Nationally-awarded (Canada & USA) GSPs, as well as fantastic hunting and family companions. We love training and working with our dogs, it is our passion!
We believe it is our responsibility as breeders to do everything in our power to safeguard the GSP breed. In addition to achieving conformation and performance titles with our dogs, we complete health testing and select the best possible mates for our dogs. Our dogs are health tested to meet the requirements of the Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals breed-specific health testing for GSPs, as recommended by the GSP Club of America.
✨TEAM
We are longstanding, active members of the GSP Club of Canada, GSP Club of America, Victoria City Kennel Club, Vancouver Island Pointing Dog Club, GSP Club of Washington, and GSP Club of Oregon. Maxine is the Judges Education Coordinator for the GSP Club of America, as well as a longtime Field/Water Test Judge and Field Trial Judge. Adrienne is a Field/Water Test and Field Trial Judge, and has been a representative for Zone 12 on the CKC’s Pointing Breeds Council since 2018. Nancy has been an active part of the Hunterspride team since 2012. Laura, who previously bred under Seadrift GSPs, has been an integral part of our team for 15 years. The success of our breeding program would not possible without our spouses – Didier, Nigel, Russ and Ken – who support us and our great passion for this breed!
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a beautiful, athletic, intelligent and loyal companion for whatever your pursuit of choice. However, a GSP is not for everyone… It is for this reason we are very discriminating about choosing homes for our puppies.
